Immediately Load-Bearing Dowel – For Glued or Glue-Free Assembly

The TUCK is a spring steel dowel. It is available in five sizes (Ø 6 mm × 25 mm, Ø 8 mm × 35 mm, Ø 10 mm × 32 mm, Ø 10 mm × 28 mm and Ø 10 mm × 16 mm) and is processed like a conventional wooden dowel.

The TUCK can be used for both glued and glue-free joints. When used for glued assemblies, no clamps, cabinet presses or similar clamping aids are required, as the TUCK, like all KNAPP connectors, is self-clamping. The spring steel ensures permanent tension. For glue-free applications, the self-clamping effect also provides a fast and secure connection.

The TUCK can be installed using a dowel drilling machine or a CNC machining center. Eliminating conventional clamping aids significantly increases productivity, even in small workshops. Any production volume can be handled without bottlenecks caused by a lack of clamps. In industrial furniture production, cycle times can be considerably reduced.

Installation – Driving the Dowel

The TUCK is installed in the same way as a conventional wooden dowel. Drill the dowel holes as usual using a dowel drilling machine or CNC machining center. Then hammer the dowel into the face of the workpiece (never into the edge).

For glued joints, apply adhesive to the edges as usual and assemble the components. Use a rubber mallet (and, if necessary, a wooden striking block) to drive the parts together. Instead of striking against a fixed support from above, it is recommended to strike the underside of the panel to make use of the material’s natural resilience. This allows the components to lock together quickly. For very large workpieces, a cabinet press or clamp may be used to assist assembly. However, there is no need to wait for the adhesive to cure. Once the final position has been reached, the clamping aid can be removed immediately.

For glue-free assembly, simply join the components without applying adhesive. The self-clamping action of the spring steel dowel provides a secure hold and enables fast, clean installation.
