Wood-steel connection with the connecting system RICON® S

A total of 18 curved beams are connected to a central polygonal steel core using the connector RICON® S. The connectors were fixed directly to the steel core with hexagonal head screws, and to the beams end grain with timber screws. Connecting the components was very easy, as the dovetail-shaped cavities of the connectors allow the fastening screws to slide tight into the final position when snapped in. The mounting was a technical feat, but the good planning ensured a perfect and automatic self-alignment of all the components.
This festival hall of Hünstetten-Oberlibbach (DE), built by the German timber company Holzbauer Derix, consists of several activity areas. The dome is the central hub, covering the main hall. Assembling the beams to the stell core was one of the biggest challenges of the project.
